Anzac Day facts
Why did they land at Gallipoli?
They landed at Gallipoli so they could capture the Ottoman fort and artillery batteries so that a naval force could advance through the arrows and the sea of Marmara towards Istombul.
Who was involved?
France, Australia, New Zealand, British India, Newfoundland, United Kingdom and Ottoman Empire.
Number of New Zealand soldiers who were either killed or wounded during the campaign
2721 Died, 4752 wounded
How did they get off the peninsula?
They hopped off the beach and onto ships waiting for them.
How do New Zealanders commemorate ANZAC Day?
On 25th April we have services, and we lay reefs on statues.
